SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Wafer reclaim specialist WRS Materials LLC has acquired Isonics Corp.'s Silicon Products and Services Division for an undisclosed price.
WRS Materials, based in San Jose, was formed through an acquisition in 2008. In August 2008, WRS acquired Montco Silicon Technologies (Spring City, Penn.). WRS offers a wide range of silicon services from a full wafer reclaim service to wafer cleaning.
Isonics' Silicon Products and Services Division (Vancouver, Canada) was one of the three divisions of Isonics Corp. (Golden, Colo.). It is a provider of isotopically engineered materials through its semiconductor products division. It provides 300-mm particle grade products and services, wafer thinning and silicon-on-insulator (SOI) wafers for the semiconductor industry.
For WRS, Isonics brings the addition of 90-nm particle grade reclaimed wafers, as well as expanded production in higher-end 200- and 300-mm diameter test particle grade silicon wafers. This 90-nm product addition complements WRS' existing line of 50- to 300- mm standard grade semiconductor silicon.
The result will be the largest specification range of test and reclaimed wafers available to customers from any single supplier in the U.S., said Richard Mee, WRS president.
The acquisition of Isonics was made possible by the completion of WRS's latest round of equity and debt financing, totaling $9.9 million, with Wanxiang America Corp. as the lead investor.
