MANHASSET, NY — Novaled has developed a large area organic light emitting diode device that the company claims meets international lighting specifications.

The Dresden, Germany-based company has developed a 15x15 cm OLED device that reaches a power efficiency of 30 lm/W at an initial brightness of 1,000 cd/m2.

It shows a high quality white light with CIE color coordinates at illluminant A being in line with DoE energy star specifications.

Novaled's proprietary technology can achieve a lifetime of 20,000 h, according to the company. The technology called "iternity" maintains the appearance of a homogeneously lighted-up surface over the entire life span of the OLED.

The white OLED device has a thickness of less than 2 mm.

Novaled claimed its OLED stack allows for a natural and warm white light performing a very high color rendering index (CRI) of 90.

The perception of this light is similar to sunlight or what is delivered by incandescent bulbs, according to Novaled.

The achieved color coordinates of (0.44, 0.41) are inside the U.S. Department of Energy quadrangles at Illuminant A and even meet the more restrictive 7step MacAdams Ellispis around Illuminant A.

The achieved specification of 30 lm/W on a 15x15 cm area device Novaled is an intermediate step in line with the European project OLED100.
