BANGALORE, India NXP Semiconductors will supply electronic components to Tata BP Solar India Ltd., a joint venture of BP Solar and Tata Power, under terms of a new agreement.
The deal calls for the companies to roll out electronic control products starting next year, according to K. Subramanya, CEO of Tata BP Solar, and NXP CTO Rene Penning de Vries. "Given the high level of sunlight all over India and in view of the country's ever increasing power demands, solar power is an economically efficient and environmentally sustainable source of energy for India," Subramanya said in a statement.
Penning de Vries added that the solar deal underscores how chip makers are attempting to move beyond the confines of Moore's Law and traditional chip making.
With manufacturing located here, Tata BP Solar is one of India's oldest solar companies. It currently focuses on the export market. The joint venture is one of the largest solar companies in the world.
