Jaco Electronics distributes more than 260,000 stock items, including semiconductors, resistors, capacitors, electromechanical devices and display products used in the manufacture and assembly of electronic products.
The company also offers services such as inventory management, flat-panel-display (FPD) system configuration and engineering support for its customers.
In addition to being a distributor of electronic components and display products to small and midsize OEMs in North America, Jaco Electronics has steadily expanded its FPD division. The business model not only uses traditional distribution agreements, but also taps engineering and value-added services for the company's expanding customer base.
In flat panels, the biggest change that company executives say they see on the horizon is the growth in size and improvement in clarity of LCD screens. "Industrial users, be they financial, gaming, medical, military, etc., [all understand] the power of LCD technology and are utilizing it at increasing rates in their products and businesses," said president and CEO Joel Girsky.
While acknowledging that the U.S. economic slowdown is beginning to affect the electronic components business, Jaco Electronics executives vow that the company will continue to allocate additional resources to its FPD division, even though capital markets are somewhat tighter today than they were four years ago.
"We will continue to expand our FPD business through new technologies, deeper penetration with existing customers and emerging areas that show promise," Girsky said. "Digital signage is one of those areas."
