Online and print catalog distributor Digi-Key has experienced explosive growth over the past 10 years, moving rapidly into the top-five ranking of electronic-component distributors in North America by focusing on quick-turn shipments and a huge stock of parts. The company ships electronic components to more than 140 countries from its main Thief River Falls, Minn., facility, where it stocks more than 300,000 products.
Although the company has no outside sales contractors, Digi-Key continues to grow strongly by ensuring that products ordered before 8 p.m. are shipped the same day to locations in North America, Europe and Asia, according to the distributor's president, Mark Larson.
Digi-Key, which represents 385 manufacturers worldwide, spent a good portion of 2007 adding to its line card, either by inking deals with new suppliers or by expanding agreements with existing ones. Some of the suppliers with which Digi-Key recently signed are Artaflex, Bulgin Components, Kingbright, Magnasphere, Newhaven Display, Roving Networks, RPM Systems, SkyeTek, Synapse, Vishay/Thin Film, Wurth Electronics and Zensys.
Additionally, the company broadened its passives and LED offerings with deals from Stackpole Electronics, a passives supplier, and Enfis, a manufacturer of LED arrays and smart light engines.
Digi-Key further strengthened its optical lineup by signing a worldwide distribution agreement with Ledil, a Finnish supplier of semiconductor optical solutions.
