SAN FRANCISCO—Rad3 Communications Inc., a communications IP vendor, said Monday (May 11) it acquired the low-density parity-check code (LDPC) IP assets of Raithlin Semiconductor Inc. Rad3 (Calgary, Canada) declined to disclose the financial terms of the deal.

As a result of the acquisition, Stephen Bates, Raithlin's CEO, joined Rad3's board of advisors, the company said. Raithlin's LDPC engineering development team has joined Rad3 in order to continue the development of the LDPC decoder technology, Rad3 said.

Several new cores are expected to be launched in during the remainder of the year, the company said.

Rad3 was founded late last year. The company IP cores targeting ASIC, FPGA and software for embedded DSP applications. The company's founders were formerly with Cygnus Communications, a subsidiary of Nextwave Wireless.
