MANHASSET, N.Y. — The IEEE Council on Electronic Design Automation is seeking nominations for two awards honoring technical contributions within the electronic design automation (EDA) industry.

The first annual Early Career Award will recognize an engineer judged to have made substantial technical contributions to EDA in the early stages of his or her career.

Nominations for the annual A. Richard Newton Technical Impact Award in EDA launched in June 2008 are also being sought. The Newton award is jointly sponsored by Council on Electronic Design Automation and the ACM Special Interest Group on Design Automation.

The first annual Early Career Award is open to academia and industry and will be presented during the International Conference on Computer Aided Design in November.

Nominees will be judged on the technical merit and creativity of their research. Judges will consider candidates' published record and references accompanying each nomination.

The A. Richard Newton Technical Impact Award in EDA honors the late dean of engineering at the University of California at Berkeley. It will be presented during the 46th annual Design Automation Conference on July 28.

Nominations for both awards are being accepted through May 15.
