The chip is a key component in the DTV decoder set-top box that Panasonic is scheduled to premiere at the Winter Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas early next month.

Corp. escaped an immediate ban on its current Aquarius placement-and-routing tools in a ruling by the U.S. District Court here on Dec. 19. But the court did ban Avant!'s legacy ArcCell products, and Judge Ronald Whyte said source code for both Aquarius and Avant!'s upcoming Apollo product must be turned over to independent experts appointed by Cadence Design Systems Inc., which had filed the suit against Avant!
X86 twist in Sun patent pactA broad patent cross-licensing deal just inked by microprocessor rivals Intel Corp. and Sun Microsystems Inc. specifically excludes all of Intel's x86-related patents, a source close to the company said. Officials at Intel declined to comment.

(SMSC) plans to take on its largest investor, Intel Corp., next month when it jumps into the intensely competitive PC core-logic market. The company's Texas chip set will directly compete in the growing low-cost-PC market with Intel's 440TX desktop chip set. Intel holds a 10 percent equity stake in SMSC.
