Cadence program looks to improve design flow

Cadence Design Systems Inc. has expanded its Connections program to include software sharing, a step toward improving design flow among disparate EDA tools. The company has created a Platinum status for the program, giving participants access to Cadence software and a multiyear commitment for joint marketing and tool verification.

Euphonics to license scalable audio scheme

Success in attracting semiconductor companies and OEMs to its audio-processing algorithms has encouraged Euphonics Inc. to move to a new phase in 1997: a scalable digital-audio architecture based on the Pentium processor. Developers at the Boulder company have defined what they call a "balanced architecture" for a dding special effects and music-synthesis modules in a graduated way through standard Pentium chips.

Control innovation steers space-based robots

A novel mathematical approach to computing robot movements could open up new application areas by offering more-compact control systems able to accomplish complex tasks. Devised by a University of Delaware professor, the approach is being tested in a very difficult situation--robots performing tasks in free fall.

IEEE approves bylaws

The IEEE has approved proposed bylaws for four IEEE entities. Among the changes, to take effect January 1998, is an elected IEEE-USA president. The bylaws for IEEE-USA, Standards, Technical Activities and Publication Activities were submitted to the board Dec. 11 as part of the reorganization plan.

Vivid preps for laptop push

A year after breaking into the interesting niche market of high-voltage, flat-panel driver ICs, Vivid Semiconductor is chopping the die size, creating an international sales and support operation and going for the heart of its perceived market: laptop computer screens.
