Houston—Texas Instruments (TI) today announced availability of three OMAP35x devices, the OMAP3515, OMAP3525 and OMAP3530. Like the previously-released OMAP3503, the new OMAP35x chips feature a 600 MHz ARM Cortex-A8. The new chips supplement the ARM CPU with a 2-D/3-D graphics subsystem, a video subsystem or both.

The graphics subsystem uses the Power VR SGX530 rendering engine from Imagination Technologies. This Open GL ES 2.0-compatible engine is capable of rendering 14 MPolys/sec. The video subsystem features a 430 MHz C64x+ DSP and various video accelerators. It is capable of handling high-definition (HD) video. For example, it can decode MPEG-4 at up to 720p resolution. The video subsystem is identical to the one in the DaVinci product line, and the OMAP35x and DaVinci families run the same audio/video codec engine.

The OMAP3503, OMAP3515, OMAP3525 and OMAP3530 applications processors are now available in 100 units for $25.95, $39.23, $43.49 and $48.34 respectively at www.ti.com.

In addition to releasing the new chips, TI also announced new boards and support for the OMAP35x family. For more information, see the related story on DSP DesignLine.
