Broadcom HEDGEs bets with new mobile processor

Barcelona, Spain — Broadcom announced its BCM2153 HEDGE baseband processor for mobile phones operating on HSDPA and W-CDMA networks. The BCM2153 processor features hardware acceleration blocks for both modem and multimedia capabilities and an 312 MHz ARM11 CPU. The chip supports up-to-3.2 megapixel cameras; TV-out functionality for displaying phone content onto standard televisions; 30 frames per second video capture and playback at CIF or QVGA resolutions for MPEG4, H.263, or H.264; and support for T-DMB and DVB-H mobile TV standards. Audio features include 64-voice polyphonic ringtones, stereo audio DACs and two pair of stereo audio amplifiers. An on-chip 480 Mbit/s USB 2.0 OTG port is also provided for downloads.
