Product Brief
Carling beefs up its circuit breaker line
11/27/2000 1:57 PM EST
PLAINVILLE, CONN. - Carling Technologies Inc. has introduced remote-operating circuit breakers (ROCBs) with remote on, off and reset capability combined with the safety and accuracy of a standard magnetic current-sensing device. Separately, the company has also rolled out shallow-base mini rocker switches in a variety of standard and custom colors, to match the looks of almost any product panel.
The design of the hydraulic/magnetic ROCBs makes it possible to operate the circuit breakers from various locations in a system, facility or site, according to Carling. Consequently, service, diagnostics, load-shedding and power-distribution control functions can now be performed in areas that were previously unattended, inaccessible or unsafe.
The ROCB module allows remote operation of Carling's C-series panel-mount breaker or the D-series DIN rail-mount breaker (up to three poles), through hardwiring with a single pole, a double-throw switch connected to a standard power source or more sophisticated relay and modem networks.
The ROCB module can be mounted to either side of the host breaker, while occupying only the width of a standard C-series pole. Several interface methods are available. Remote physical actuation of the host circuit breaker is achieved by connecting the ROCB module's handle with the circuit breakers, the company said.
Based on the C-series breaker, the ROCB allows easy adaptation into existing panel designs. In addition, its compact size allows efficient use of space for new design applications, according to the company.
Some key features include design flexibility with multiple motor-mounting options, remote operation of one to three poles, motor voltage input of 12 to 80 Vdc, motor start current of more than 1 amp, on and off trip indication, and load-shedding and autoreset capabilities.
The company's rocker switches, meanwhile, come in a choice of matte (651-series) or gloss (652-series) finishes. With a variety of electrical ratings, they are suited for use in appliances.
The 651/652 represents Carling's shallowest depth and most efficient miniature-switch offering, the company said. The devices fit the industry-standard cutout (0.508 x 0.756 inch), and their silver-plated, butt-action contact mechanism affords a wide range of electrical ratings.
A high-profile rocker ensures easy actuation. The switches are rated to 12 A at 125 Vac, and 10 A at 250 Vac quarter horsepower. Their mounting-wing design provides ease of insertion and greater panel-retention properties, according to Carling.
Samples and production quantities of the rocker switches are available now. Pricing is 43 cents each via distribution in 1,000-piece quantities. Delivery takes four to six weeks.
Pricing for the ROCB module is $20 each.
