Single-board computer drives a pair of displays

COLUMBIA, MD. — A single-board computer from Applied Data Systems features the ability to simultaneouslydrive two independent liquid-crystal displays (LCDs), each with a format of up to 320 x 240 pixels (1/4-VGA).

Based on a low-power (400 mW), 206-MHz, 32-bit Strong ARM RISC microprocessor, the so-called "two-headed" board "can support multiple operator graphical displays to create output on a variety of LCD displays," said Fred Salloum, marketing director. It's particularly suitable, he said, "for multi-user requirements with display advertising, kiosks, slot machines, news and information systems applications."

The board has up to 32 Mbytes of DRAM, up to 16 Mbytes of flash and 128 kbytes of boot EPROM. It also includes PCMCIA, three serial ports, and a codec with speaker and microphone support. It also sports Ethernet, a real-time clock, 32 lines of digital I/O and 12 analog inputs. The board supports Linux, WindowsCE, OS-9, VxWorks and Java. Pricing starts in the low $300s per unit.
