Seattle, Wash. - Targeting industrial applications, embedded database vendor Raima has implemented Softing's OPC Unified Architecture (UA) Toolbox to create an OLE for Process Control-based application that communicates directly with the RDM Embedded Database's C-API.

The OLE for Process Control(OPC) standard specifies the communication of real-time industrial and manufacturing plant data between control devices from different manufacturers.

According to Duncan Bates, Vice President of Product Management at Raima, the OPC UA Toolkits are designed to assist software engineers in the implementation of effective OPC Clients/Servers or to embed high-performance OPC UA technology directly into target devices like programmable logic controllers (PLCs), digital control systems (DCS), or operator panels.

He said one of the major advantages of OPC UA is its independence from the Windows operating system which provides for the deployment of OPC UA on Linux and real-time operating systems like Green Hills' Integrity and Wind Rivers VxWorks.
