Lattice Semiconductor Corp. said Monday (March 8) it has now shipped more than 200 million ispMACH 4000 complex programmable logic devices (CPLDs).

According to Lattice (Hillsboro, Ore.), CPLDs offer advantages over FPGAs, providing a low cost solution with predictable and very fast timing characteristics.

With packages down to 4x4mm, static power consumption down to 10µA and prices starting as low as 50 cents, the ispMACH 4000ZE CPLD family is suited for battery-powered or low standby power devices such as smartphones, portable GPS products and home appliances like digital set-top-boxes, Lattice said.

"Shipping over 200 million ispMACH 4000 CPLDs is an important milestone for both Lattice and the programmable logic industry, because it demonstrates the value CPLDs offer to a myriad of digital system designs," said Chris Fanning, Lattice vice president and general manager of low density and mixed signal solutions, in a statement.
