SAN FRANCISCO—Xilinx Inc.'s Spartan-6 FPGAs have achieved full production qualification on Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd.'s 45-nm process, the companies said Friday (Feb. 19).

The announcement follows another last month that Xilinx' high-end Virtex-6 is in volume production at 40-nm at United Microelectronics Corp. (UMC).

In late 2008, Xilinx chose UMC and Samsung as it foundries for Virtex-6 and Spartan-6 products. Xilinx used UMC and Toshiba for foundry work at previous nodes.

"We are pleased that the Xilinx-Samsung relationship is off to a strong start and looking forward to a successful long-term partnership," said Jay Min, vice president of Samsung's foundry business, in a statement

On Friday, analyst Ian King with Broadpoint Amtech said in a report that Xilinx is expected to announce next week that it will use leading foundry Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. Ltd. for foundry work at the 28-nm node.
