Amplified ZigBee module achieves 2.5-mile range

Munich, Germany—MeshNetics is sampling an amplified 2.4-GHz IEEE 802.15.4 /ZigBee module that offers high range and low power.
The ZDM-A1281-PN ZigBit Amp module is capable of achieving a sight range of 4 kilometers (2.5 miles) while keeping power consumption at 10-µA in sleep mode, 23 mA in receive mode, and 60 mA in transmit mode.
The ZDM-A1281-PN ZigBit Amp module is based on Atmel's Z-Link hardware platform. It is designed for wireless sensing, monitoring and control, and data acquisition applications.
Availability: Sampling with mass production scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2008.
