PARIS — European chipmaker STMicroelectronics NV announced that its Home Entertainment and Displays Group has adopted the PowerCentric clock-tree synthesis software from Azuro Inc. (Santa Clara, Calif.) to tape out its next generation set-top-box design.

By deploying Azuro's PowerCentric solution within its chip implementation flow, STMicroelectronics (Geneva, Switzerland) said it could "significantly improve clock timing" while "reducing clock area".

"Azuro reduced the insertion delay of our critical clocks by 15 percent which allowed us to meet our performance targets," commented Francois Remond, director of CAD & Design Methodology for the HED group at ST.

He added: "PowerCentric’s superior results and unique graphical analysis capabilities also allowed us to quickly identify bottlenecks and accelerate our clock implementation process."

Founded in 2002, Azuro is a privately held company with R&D offices in Cambridge, England.
