Philips' multiplexer line manages multiple buses

SUNNYVALE, CALIF. — Philips Semiconductors has introduced a line of multiplexers designed for multiple system-management buses or multiple devices with the same address or different voltage levels. They are said to eliminate the need for glue logic and general-purpose I/Os, and they include diodes to enable shifting between 5-V and 3.3-V buses.

The PCA9540 is a two-channel multiplexer without interrupts that switches between two devices or buses. The PCA9542, another two-channel multiplexer, contains three address pins and can be used to switch up to 16 buses. The PCA9544, meanwhile, is a four-channel multiplexer that can switch up to 32 devices or buses.

The PCA9540 is priced at 59 cents, the PCA9542 at 85 cents and the PCA9544 at $1.55, all in quantities of 10,000.
