Tanner unveils schematic tool

L-Edit is a Windows-based, full-custom layout editor for analog and custom cell design, chip assembly and microelectromechanical systems (MEMS), said the Pasadena, Calif., company.

L-Edit/SDL lets chip designers retain electrical-connectivity information from schematic drawings and display it in design layouts. "It allows you to read in a netlist and tie it to the layout you're working on," said Mass Sivilotti, chief scientist at Tanner EDA, a division of Tanner Research Inc.

"That's useful at the cell design level, where you are concerned about connecting devices of particular sizes, and at the chip assembly level, where you're connecting previously designed blocks."

Any schematic package can be used with L-Edit/SDL, Sivilotti said, including Tanner's. The tool reads Spice netlists as well as Cadence Design Systems' CDL description language.

L-Edit/SDL is available now as an add-on for L-Edit, priced at $2,875.
