Winbond, TigerJet work on USB IP phone platform
WAYNE, N.J. — Codec developer Winbond has formed a strategic partnership with processor vendor TigerJet, under which the companies will work together on the development a VoIP phone that can link up with PCs through a USB port.

The USB phone design will include Winbond's W681511 codec, which is a single-channel device that delivers a 10-&mu.A power consumption figure in power-down mode and operates from a 4.5- to 5.5-V supply. The codec offers seven master clock rates of 256 KHz to 4.086 MHz, pin-selectable μ-Law and A-law companding, and push-pull amplifiers with external gain adjustment.

The reference platform also includes TigerJet's Tiger560 VoIP processor, which includes an SPI interface, TDM/IOM2/GCI serial interface, and a peripheral Interface Bus (PIB). The PIB has byte-wide data, 6 address lines, 8 configurable control lines as well as read and write lines.

TigerJet will also provide the software necessary for enabling P phone capabilities on PCs.
