Samsung, Jungo develop DSL gateway reference
WAYNE, N.J. — Jungo Software has inked a development agreement with Samsung Semiconductor under which the companies will build a reference design for DSL gateways and modems that combines Samsung's S5N8947 microcontroller and Jungo's OpenRG software suite.

Jungo's OpenRG software suite has gained traction in the cable market. Conexant teamed up with Jungo late last year to add OpenRG to a CableHome reference design (See Conexant, Jungo team on CableHome platform).

Through its work with Samsung, Jungo is increasing its reach into the digital subscriber (DSL) portion of the broadband sector. The S5N8497 is a 32-bit ARM7-based communication processor that is optimized for ADSL. By porting OpenRG to this processor, Samsung and Jungo plan to deliver a hardware/software gateway platform to DSL equipment designers.

The joint reference design supports a DSL and Ethernet WAN interface as well as a variety of LAN interfaces including Ethernet, 802.11b, and USB. Support for a stateful inspection packet firewall, UPnP and web-based management are also provided.

The Samsung/Jungo reference platform will be on display at this week's Embedded Systems Conference in San Francisco.
