Cypress offers 533-MHz Direct Rambus clock generators
SAN JOSE -- Cypress Semiconductor Corp. here today introduced two versions of a 533-MHz clock generator for Direct Rambus DRAMs used in high-bandwidth memory applications, such as communications, graphics and consumer applications.

The San Jose chip maker said the new Direct Rambus clock generators are the first validated by Rambus Inc. for operation at 533 MHz. The new high-speed clock generators--designated W134-25 and W134-35--are pin compatible with each other and support different frequency multiplier tables to give system designers more flexibility for reference input frequencies, said Cypress.

"Cypress and Rambus began working together early in the 1,066-MHz RDRAM development cycle to refine the specifications for the 533-MHz DRCG," said Ian Chen, marketing director for the Timing Technology division at Cypress. "With the trend towards ever-higher networking speeds and more economical memory buffers, high bandwidth is needed. By creating a high-speed addition to our family of industry leading DRCGs, we help enable the next level of performance for communications systems."

Samples of the W134-25 and W134-35 are available now in 24-pin 150-mil shrink small outline packages (SSOPs). Production volumes will be available first quarter of 2001, priced at $7.50 each for quantities of 10,000.
