UMC's October sales rise 17% year-on-year

LONDON — The world's number two foundry United Microelectronics Corp. (Hsinchu, Taiwan) has reported a jump in sales for October compared with one year before.

United Microelectronics Corp. (UMC) reported net sales of NT$9.30 billion (about $288 million) for the month of October 2009, down 2.5 percent from the previous month and up 17.6 percent from a year ago.

For the period January to October UMC's sales were NT$70.17 billion (about $2.17 billion), down 14.3 percent from the equivalent ten months in 2008.
