MUNICH, Germany — Infineon-spinoff Lantiq (Munich)has taken over home networking-related technology from Aware Inc (Bedford, MA).In addition, Lantiq plans to launch a technology competence center focused at this topic at Aware's location.

Aware provides silicon IP for DSL wirebound data transmission. In line with its strategy announced earlier, Lantiq has bought IP related to home networking from Aware, in particular for OFDM and DMT technologies which are relevant for the future home networking standard G.hn.

In addition, the former Infineon wireline business segment has taken over 40 engineers and experts with whom it plans to launch its competence center.

With the acquisition, Lantiq plans to position itself for the home networking market. "We believe the market for wirebound home networks has strong growth potential," a Lantiq spokesperson explained the rationale for the move. Besides buying the assets from Aware, Lantiq announced its intention to closely cooperate with Aware in the future.

The deal is worth $6.75 million, Aware announced.
