Massana shows G.Lite core at DSP World
ORLANDO, Fla. — Massana Inc., a startup specializing in DSP synthesizable cores for communications applications, came to DSP World this week with a derivative of its Filu-200 core optimized for splitterless ADSL applications. The company's new Filu-DMT features the 200-MHz dual-MAC architecture of the original core but dedicates the DSP to discrete multitone modulation, handing off "G.lite" protocol control to a host integer processor.

Brian Murray, vice president of engineering for Massana (Campbell, Calif.), said the company expects most customers to integrate the core with an integer processor core, usually in an ASIC rather than the FPGAs used in Massana's demonstration boards. Massana also showed DSP World a development kit consisting of a PCI card with a Filu-DMT in FPGAs, combined with an analog front end and data access arrangement for a G.Lite modem design.

This trend will be carried out in a more-comprehensive Filu Development System that Massana will seed to OEMs this fall. The development boards can be populated with prototype versions of the Filu-200, Filu-50 and Filu-50HC11. The cores are integrated with 16-bit audio codec, LCD display, RS-232 interface and free board area for prototyping.
