Cadence acquires wireless design firm
SAN JOSE, Calif. — Cadence Design Systems Inc. has acquired Diablo Research Co. LLC (Sunnyvale, Calif.), a privately-held wireless design firm, to augment its earlier acquisition of Symbionics Ltd. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Diablo has worked over the last 17 years on embedded microprocessor applications, and has built a base of expertise in recent months in GPS, HomeRF and Bluetooth technologies. Cadence debuted the first Bluetooth-specific design tools last summer, and has worked informally with Diablo on wireless projects.

The Diablo acquisition brings a stable of 135 design engineers into Cadence's North American design services organization, which will augment the 900 design engineers that employed worldwide in the Cadence Design Services division. After the acquisition, at least 400 designers will be focused on wireless applications at Cadence, the company said.
