Viewlogic targets e-based design
MUNICH, Germany — Viewlogic Systems Inc., newly spun off from Synopsys Inc. and touting its "e-product" strategy, announced a new member of its Design Exchange family of tools for Web-based design on Tuesday (Nov. 10).

The vendor-independent Library Studio system allows engineers to create, publish and manage component information of an EDA library.

Library Studio allows a "librarian" to kickstart the design process by handling new incoming parts over the Web. The system works in conjunction with Viewlogic's other Design Exchance offerings: Design Exchance DataBook for component information management; Design Exchance DataManager; and ViewDraw VO, a Web plug-in to view design documentaiton management over the Web.

"Engineers haven't been particularly good at talking to the rest of [corporate] enterprise," said Roland Mattison, vice president of product marketing at Viewlogic (Marlboro, Mass.). "These tools are designed to make the e-product design group work seamlessly with the rest of the enterprise." Mattison made his comments during a news conference at the Electronica '98 conference here.

Viewlogic also announced that Lattice Semiconductor Corp. and Lucent Technologies have signed multiyear distribution agreements with Viewlogic to resell the Workview Office 7.5 suite of design tools.

In addition, Viewlogic and programmable-logic vendor Altera Corp. have agreed to provide their tools to customers using the Microsoft Component Object model standard. The companies will also work to have Altera's Quartus PLD development system and Viewlogic's tools work together.
