Will you be at IP-SoC? IP? IP-ESC?

I am sure that many of you were successively asked these questions.

At least, I was.

Everyone in the profession knows about this Grenoble-based technical conference, focused on intellectual property (IP) based system-on-chip (SoC) design.

Hesitation and confusion arose after the conference name changed from IP-SoC 2006 to IP07 and, eventually, to IP-ESC 2009.

Three names in four years.

Why is that?

Because IPs have become subsystems or platforms it appeared as a natural extension that IP09 would be combined with Embedded Systems Conference to become IP-ESC 2009, addressing a continuous technical spectrum from IP to SoC to embedded systems.

That's not all.

The Open SystemC Initiative (OSCI) is co-locating with IP-ESC 2009 to hold a European SystemC User Group Meeting on Dec 1. Technical User Presentations will notably explore virtual platforms, power analysis, SoC Modeling.

The full agenda is available here.

Last year, despite a gloomy market, the conference attracted over 400 attendees.

We can only hope that, with the above-mentioned changes, the conference continues to raise the audience.
