Thermal circuit breakers for equipment protect motors and transformers against electrical overloading. The trip release of a breaker takes place with the deflection of a bimetal. This deflection is in turn dependent on heat caused by the level of current flowing through the bimetal. The typical time-current characteristic of a thermal circuit breaker is a result of the thermal delay of the bimetal.
