The American health care system has recently received a great deal of attention as the U.S. government attempts to overhaul America's costly and outdated health-care infrastructure. One key way to drive costs out of the health care system is by computerizing or "modernizing" the sector's medical records system. This paper shows how device server technology can be used to remotely access laboratory and bedside equipment and Electronic Medical Records (EMR) to help health care providers make timely diagnosis and treatment decisions. Device servers offer remote access either wired or wirelessly using safe and secure means of transmitting patient health data over a hospital's network.
