Elements of Basic Utility Meters

Metering is becoming one of the fastest growing market segment in terms of the revenue it is generating and it is expected to make in near future. Because of this, a lot many VLSI companies are trying to come up with their SoC solutions for the same. Also, a lot many meter manufacturer are coming up the horizon to tap this opportunity. Therefore, there is an obvious urge to know and understand the metering concepts better. This paper serves to describe what constitutes a basic utility meter and deciding upon the architecture of the basic utility meter SoC.
