Mitigation Methods for Parasitic Turn-On Effect Due to Miller Capacitor

One of the problems commonly encountered when switching an insulated-gate bipolar transistor (IGBT) is parasitic turn-on due to Miller capacitor. This paper explains parasitic turn-on and discusses mitigation solutions for it. The active miller clamp solution is discussed, along with desaturation protection and under-voltage lock-out, as well as use of Avago Technologies ACPL-331J and ACPL-332J products.
