It is obvious that a multiplexer is used to select one of several input signals; however, in this white paper, I will consider a variety of ways in which multiplexers can be implemented within Xilinx field programmable gate array (FPGA) devices.
The paper first considers the straightforward method and identifies some potential issues. It then investigates some alternative techniques that can lead to more efficient and lower-cost implementations.
