Using CFD to Predict the Flow Behaviour of the UHP Lamp

FLOTHERM has been used by Philips BU-CDS to predict the flow behaviour of the UHP projection lamp during the development of a new LCD projector. By using results from detailed grid models in developing compact models excellent agreement could be reached between simulations and measurements at higher velocities (above 1 m/s). At lower velocities measurements have shown that a linear term enters the equation between pressure drop and velocity. This effect could not be found in simulations.
