Design of a General Image Compression System Based on the MVP

In this paper, a hardware design using the MVP, TMS320C80 is proposed, which can be used to realize the Video Encoder based on the ITU Rec. H. 263. Because of the combination of DSP and RISC technology of the TI's MVP, this system can also be used in various applications for video compression and image processing. Detailed hardware implementation is presented, techniques in implementing the motion estimation and Variable length decoder are discussed.
