Enhanced PCM Coder for Voice Over IP

This paper presents an enhanced PCM coder (EPCMC) that can be used for packetized speech communication such as Voice over IP (VoIP). In the EPCMC scheme, Bad Frame Masking, Voice Activity Detection, and Comfort Noise Generator are designed to operate with conventional PCM coder. The EPCMC has been implemented on TMS320C62XX Digital Signal Processor (DSP) and integrated into Radisys' PACE (Packet Circuit Engine) VoIP platform prototype.
