The cost of running a car on electricity is equivalent to paying $0.75/gallon for gasoline, and if that electricity comes from carbon neutral sources, car owners are saving both money and the environment (gasoline combustion produces 9kg of CO2 per US gallon). Advancements in battery technology, especially with Lithium-based chemistries, hold the greatest promise for converting the worldwide fleet of cars to hybrid or fully electric.
