Phonetic embedded speech recognition is a new speech recognition technology. You can find it in speech activated dialing in some cell phones, PDAs, and other handheld devices. New telephone services are emerging which will make small devices into powerful communication assistants, and a competent speech interface will make these services easy to use and possible to remember. This article considers whether or not this new technology is disruptive.
