ARM
Puru Mishra and Chris WrigleyVault
October 2008
A DMA Controller can move data within a system far more effectively than a general purpose CPU and this can lead to improved performance and/or reduced power. To achieve this, the DMA Controller needs to be highly configurable and flexible and it is these requirements that have driven that architecture of the ARM Advanced DMA Controller PrimeCell (PL330). This article explores the characteristics of this DMA Controller to illustrate these benefits.
