Gaming as we know it today has come a long way from the multi-colored, fuzzy, pixelated characters that once populated it. It has grown into a 3-D realm of rich colors, realistic animations and smooth, sharp graphical displays. The continuing challenge faced by the gaming industry is the need for an environment that the gamer will find immersive and captivating and which can only be made possible by using faster processors, sharper graphics, and a user-friendly interface. This challenge is becoming even more acute as gaming increases its presence in mobile devices such as cell phones, vehicle infotainment, and other more constricted platforms.

This article illustrates how off-the-shelf Graphical User Interface (GUI) Engine technology for ARM architecture can dramatically simplify user interface and game development for multi-functional consumer devices.
