For next generation mobile systems to deliver desktop-like experiences to the mobile user, similar features must be implemented in much less memory and computing power than in a typical desktop computer. Elliptic curve cryptography provides robust, standardized cryptography especially suitable for resource-constrained environments. This paper discusses security issues relevant to the wireless environment, gives a brief overview of ECC, and discusses the benefits of ECC in the wireless environment.
