The ZigBee protocol was created to address the market need for a cost-effective, standards-based wireless networking solution that supports low data rates, low power consumption, security and reliability. ZigBee is based on the IEEE 802.15.4 standard and represents a newly emerging technology that addresses the unique needs of most remote monitoring and control as well as sensory network applications. ZigBee technology is better suited for control application, which does not require a high data rate, but must have low power, low cost and network flexibility.
