Using Embedded FPGA Blocks to Enable SoC Re-Configurability
Actel, Embedded Systems Conference (ESC)
Ian Bryant and Yankin TanurhanConference Paper
March 2007
This paper describes the benefits of using embedded programmable gate arrays (EPGAs), an embeddable FPGA technology, within a system-on-a-chip (SoC) device. It describes the considerations required for use beyond those of dedicated stand-alone FPGA products.
The paper then describes Actel's new VariCore EPGA architecture, developed to allow embedding reprogrammability into SoC applications, along with the methodologies to implement them.
