Tech Papers

New wireless technologies, such as GPRS, are enabling new mobile wireless Internet services, and wireless network operators are implementing IP backbones to carry these new services. This paper provides an introduction to GPRS and the building blocks of a GPRS network, such as the base stations, service nodes, and backbone routers. Emphasis is placed on the operation of the GPRS network and interfacing between the different components. Other topics covered are basic concepts in forwarding traffic through a GPRS network and benefits of deploying GPRS.
