Functional Programming has been around for quit e some time. Its characteristic features include high order functions, lazy evaluation, side-effect freeness, etc. These characteristics are particularly found to be effective for concurrent systems.

This article introduces functional programming paradigm and shows how the industry is taking it forward to achieve more parallelism on concurrent systems.
